Culture Reclamation

UNESCO considers the intentional destruction of cultural heritage a war crime, but ISIS has been known to ostentatiously do just that. The group considers representational art idolatrous, and as a result, works of art at museums, mosques, and churches have become targets of its hammers, axes, bulldozers, and bombs.

I believe the emergence of 3D printing technology is going to play a key role in restoring the destroyed sites of the ancient world. After getting the required training. At some point in my life, I would love to put together a team of artists and historians together to create digital versions of what has been lost so they can never be taken away again.

Most people fail to realize that, the reason why we as humans keep making the same mistakes over and over again is that we don't get properly educated about our pasts and their consequences.

This isn't anything new considering the library of Alexander the Great was also set on fire by extremists and the scientists today estimate that the loss of all the accumulated knowledge has cost us around 1,500 years of advancing.  Let me put this in context by a quote;

[Antibiotics are compounds produced by bacteria and fungi which are capable of killing, or inhibiting, competing for microbial species. This phenomenon has long been known; it may explain why the ancient Egyptians had the practice of applying a poultice of moldy bread to infected wounds. But it was not until 1928 that penicillin, the first true antibiotic, was discovered by Alexander Fleming, Professor of Bacteriology at St. Mary's Hospital in London]

(Royal Society of Chemistry 1999)

In the grand scheme of things this gap of knowledge is only a spec of what has been lost and yet, probably costed the lives of thousands of people resulting in an innumerable amount of unnecessary suffering. Imagine all the lives that could have been saved if all of these kinds of accumulated knowledge was preserved, and passed on properly, to begin with.

As I have said previously I believe the 3D technology combined with the emergence of VR can truly revolutionize the world as we know and I'm so excited to see where it goes.

It's imperative to understand that destroyers only win when builders stop building
